BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman on Thursday said that the attack on late President Ziaur Rahman’s mazar at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar was outcome of a conspiracy.
He made the comments while talking to reporters after visiting the mazar at 3:00pm a day after some miscreants damaged the architecture of Zia’s mazar made of marble stones.
“It was an attack on the sprit of war of liberation. We those believe in sprit of war of liberation strongly condemn the attack,” he said.
The BNP leader demanded the arrest of perpetrators involved in the attack and book them to justice.
Earlier while visiting the mazar, BNP assistant publicity secretary Imran Saleh Prince also said that the vandalizing of marble stones of the mazar was taken place as part of conspiracy of a particular quarter.
He said question has arisen as to how the incident took place since it was a protected area and adjacent to Ganabhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister and Jatiya Sangsad.
It was an incident of conspiracy and it was done with an ill motive, he added.
Appointed cleaner Mizanur Rahman told reporters that some miscreants vandalized some 10-12 marble stones of the mazar on Wednesday night.
“I saw the broken stones lie at the mazar,” he said.
Meanwhile, when contacted office in charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar GG Biswas said they received no complain in this regard till last evening.
He, however said that he summoned the concerned engineer of the Public Works Department to know about the incident.
The engineer said the marble stones were pasted with adhesive on the complex surrounded the grave of Ziaur Rahman and later they fixed the stone tiles with the help of adhesive, said the police official. – Staff Reporter
