Aus school girls' green X-mas tree formula!

Aus school girls’ green X-mas tree formula!

A group of Australian school girls have discovered a method for keeping Christmas tree green afresh for a longer period by spraying hairspray on the plant. Spraying with hairspray found effective to keeping the tree greener and healthy for long time than by preserving the plant in water. This is indeed an interesting discovery which deserves appreciation and acknowledgement.Meanwhile the risk of dry Christmas tree being caught by fire increases through application of hairspray because hairsprays contain flammable chemicals. Hairspray contains polymers in a very volatile solvent like alcohols and hydrocarbons. Some hairsprays however use natural polymers and solvent made from herbal gum. If hairspray made of natural substances is used then the risk of catching fire on the dry Christmas trees would be reduced significantly. Of course it would require further laboratory research and field observation for determining the actual biochemical impacts of polymers on pine tree. Instead of using hairsprays we can use accurate quantity of chemicals found in hairspray preparations.
I would request Professor Angela Moles, an award-winning plant ecologist from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) who worked with the students on the experiment to undertake an exclusive research project on the issue involving the school girls and some experts.
