Dhaka – Bangladesh Karate team finished 4th in the five-nation South Asian Karate Championship’2019 securing seven gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze medals that concluded at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen was the chief guest at the day’s closing ceremony and later he distributed the prizes.
Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md Akhter Hossain was also present at the function as special guest, chaired by President of Bangladesh Karate Federation Dr Mozammel Haque Khan.
India clinched the title securing 30 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronzes, Sri Lanka finished runners-up with 12 gold, 20 silvers and 18 bronzes, Nepal became 3rd collecting eight gold, 5 silvers and 10 bronzes and Bhutan finished 5th and last with one gold and seven bronze medals.
Bangladesh men’s senior team comprises Hossan Khan, Al Amin, Ramzan, Lokman and Atiq clinched the gold in team’s Kumite event while Hasan Khan won the gold medal in men’s singles Kata event, in addition to Bangladesh men’s junior team comprises Bijoy, Proshanto and Rabbi bagged gold in the team’s Kata event on the opening day (Friday).
A total of 245 karatekas from five South Asian countries – India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and hosts Bangladesh – split into Cadet, Junior, Under-21 and Senior groups, took part in the 60 events of the meet.UNB
