Bangladesh pip Pakistan to 8th place in ICC ODI rankings, raise Champions Trophy hopes

Bangladesh have moved up to eighth in the ICC One-Day rankings pushing Pakistan down one place below.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s side will be able to compete in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 if they do not slip up in the ranking until Sept 30 this year.The West Indies who are in the seventh position have 88 rating points, the same as Bangladesh, the ICC said in a media statement on Thursday.The three sides, separated by one point, will be vying for two places in the Champions Trophy where hosts England and seven top ranking ICC teams will play.Bangladesh, who played this year’s World Cup Quarterfinals, have gained eight points while the West Indies lost four.Pakistan, who lost to Bangladesh 3-0 in the just-concluded ODI series, have slipped to ninth position with 87 rating points.
The former world champions lost five rating points after crashing out of the World Cup quarterfinals.
If Bangladesh want to qualify automatically for the 2019 World Cup, they will have to maintain their ranking until Sept 30, 2017.
