Bangladesh’s Rooppur NPP engineering survey tender floated


Atomenergoproekt, sister concern of Russian state nuclear company- ROSATOM, for general designing of nuclear power plants has announced a tender for engineering survey, environmental monitoring and development of project documents for the Rooppur NPP site.
The contract value is estimated at USD $18.2 million (incl.VAT), and the work is to be completed by September 15, 2015.
Interested companies have to submit their tender documents till January 20, 2015, and the results to be announced on February 19, 2015.
Russia and Bangladesh presently are developing a contract for completing the preparation for the construction of the Rooppur NPP. The NPP construction is to start at the end of 2015.In Autumn 2013, Rosatom laid the first stone at the Rooppur NPP construction site.  Russia will design, construct and commission two power units with VVER type reactors, each with 1,000 Mw capacity, as well as build the infrastructure. Russia plans to commission the Rooppur NPP at the beginning of the 2020s.
In June Rosatom signed a contract for constructions at the Rooppur NPP site worth over USD $300 million. This third contract stipulates installation and construction until “the first concrete is laid.”
Russia decided to provide Bangladesh with a loan totaling USD $500 million at a reduced interest rate for the works at preparatory period. Besides, in 2015 Russia may decide to provide Bangladesh with a new loan also at a reduced interest rate for the final construction of the project. Such power plant with the capacity of over 2,000 MW may cost about USD $10 billion.
