Banks, NBFIs urged to promote new entrepreneurs

President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) M Sabur Khan on Thursday urged the banks and non-banking financial
institutions (NBFIs) to come forward to help the new entrepreneurs.
He made the request at a daylong workshop for all SME heads of banks and NBFIs at DCCI which was arranged to ensure finance for 2,000 new
entrepreneurs to be created by the DCCI.   General Manager of SME and Special Programme Department of Bangladesh Bank Sukamal Sinha
Chowdhury was present at the workshop as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukamal Sinha said there is no alternative to creation of entrepreneurs to foster economic growth. “We should
increase financing more to the new entrepreneurs rather increasing the volume of lending.”   He informed that the Bangladesh Bank has
achieved 56 percent of its target of financing in the SME sector through all commercial banks.   The BB official urged all SME heads of
banks and NBFIs to come forward positively in order to finance new entrepreneurs created by the DCCI. “Bangladesh Bank will remain with
the DCCI to make this venture a success,” he said calling upon the bankers to select potential entrepreneurs and finance them.   Sabur
Khan also said that DCCI is going to publish a ‘Business Handbook’ as a guidebook for the new entrepreneurs.   He called upon the SME heads
of all banks and NBFIs to provide funds to the potential business projects come out of DCCI’s project of ‘Creating 2000 Entrepreneurs.’
“If you all come forward to promote new entrepreneurs, one day they’ll lead our economy to the desired level.”   Representatives from the
