Barua for coordinated effort to ensure policy sustainability


Industries Minister Dilip Barua on Wednesday called on all the stakeholders in the industrial sector to come up with a coordinated effort to ensure good governance and policy sustainability.   Addressing the inaugural function of the National SME Business Plan Competition 2013 at a city hotel, the minister said good governance as well as sustaibable policies are required to keep up the recent increase in industrial production.   He also stressed that banks and financial institutions need to play a stronger role in the coming days to support innovative business plans of new enterpreneurs.   “Only innovative business plans won’t do, we need the financial backup to ensure that the plans can be implemented with success,” Barua said adding that the industrial sector is now suffering from a dearth of financing.   Speakers at the programme recommended the banks provide easy loans to small and medium enterprise (SME) initiatives to boost the growth in the sector.   The SME Foundation has organised the Competition for the second time. Interested enterpreneurs can submit their business plans in the competition by December this year, through both conventional and online applicatoins. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are Tk 5 lakh, Tk 4 lakh and Tk 3 lakh respectiely.   The prizes will be announced one month after the closure of the submission.   Presided over by SME Foundation acting managing director Mujibur Rahman, the inaugural function was also addressed by Dhaka Chambe of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) presidnet Sabur Khan – UNB
