BCL leader hacked to death by robbers in Laxmipur


Dhaka, June 25 – A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), who was reportedly chopped by robbers on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.The deceased is Nazrul Islam, general secretary of BCL Char Abdullahpur Union unit, and son of Nur Islam of Char Gazaria area in Ramgati upazilaof Laxmipur district.
The district unit of BCL brought out a protest rally in the town demanding immediate arrest of Nazrul’s killers.
According to police and BCL leaders, Nazrul and his brother Sheikh Farid were reportedly abducted by robbers led by gang leader Khokan. They later demanded ransom money from Nazrul’s family.
Getting no ransom money, the robbers hacked Nazrul and his brother Farid severely and left them at a house near Chairmanghat area of the upazila.
Being informed, local people rushed them to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex. As Nazrul’s condition deteriorated further, he was later shifted to Noakhali General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries this morning.
There were several cases filed against Khokan with different police stations in the district, said police, adding that Khokon is a top listed robber in the area.
Ramgati Police Station officer-in-charge Md Iqbal Hssain said police are conducting drive to arrest Khokan. – UNB
