BCL men suspended over extortion from RU student

Rajshahi – Two BCL men have been suspended over taking of extortion forcibly from a student at Rajshahi Universty (RU) on Sunday.A press release signed by BCL RU unit president Golam Kibria and secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu confirmed the news.
The suspended BCL members are – Jakariya Zaman Jack, former assistant general secretary of BCL RU unit and Anik Mahmud Boni, an activist of the unit.
Earlier, threatening a student of handing over to Police as an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir two men of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Sunday allegedly took extortion of tk 6,000 after confining him for an hour at Sher-e- Bangla Hall of Rajshahi University (RU).
The victim was identified as Abdullah Al-Mamun, a final year student of accounting and information system department of the university.
Al-Amin alleged that several times, he was threatened by Jakariya Zaman Jack, former assistant general secretary of BCL RU unit and Anik Mahmud Boni, an activist of the unit, and they also took money from him on different occasions.
He said that Jack took him away to his room at Sher-e- Bangla Hall at around 10:30am on Sunday when he was taking his breakfast at Tukitaki Chhattar of the university.
“After reaching his room, he (Jack) demanded tk 10,000 as extortion threatening me of handing over to police”, he alleged.
I told them that I did not have the money, then, they compelled me to contact my parents and I asked my father to send them the amount they demanded as they were threatening to hand over hin to law enforcers treating as Shibir activist’, he also said.
Later, they released me just after my father sent tk 6000 in Bkash, he said.
Later, he verbally informed the university proctor Professor Mujibul Huq Azad Khan of the incident.
However, the BCL men denied the allegation of taking extortion, claiming that they, even, did not know Mamun. – RU Correspondent
