Dhaka – Condemning the ongoing persecution on the Rohingya people in Myanmar, leaders of Bangladesh Buddhist Federation yesterday came down heavily on the ongoing repression on them. The leaders also put forwarded their demands of the Myanmar government and authorities concerned to immediately stop the persecution and resolve the long standing crisis.
The Buddhists organisation came up with the demands at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital.
General secretary of the Federation Ashok Barua said such persecution on Rohingay people including women and children is against humanity.
“We think such attack on them is not against religion rather it is against humanity. We demand immediate stop to such atrocities and resolve the long overdue crisis,” he added.
“We express our hatred for such torture and call upon the world community to stand by the Rohingyas who are being tortured by the Myanmar army,” Ashok said.
The Buddhist leader also expressed his doubt of any anarchic situation that might arise in Bangladesh centring the Rohingya issue.
The recent spate of persecution on the Rohingya minority Muslims has drawn much criticism from different quarters including political, religious and ethnic minority organisations both home and abroad. – Staff Reporter
