Tigers win the first T20 against Zimbabwe


Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the four-match T20I series beating visiting Zimbabwe by 4 wickets with 8 balls remaining in the first match at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Friday.Replying to Zimbabwe’s 163 runs, hosts Bangladesh reached the target scoring 166 for 6 in 18.4 overs. Sabbir Rahman scored team highest 46 off 36 balls with four fours and one six and was caught by Malcolm Waller off a Graeme Cremer delivery at 125 for 5 in 14.3 overs.Apart from his individual score, Sabbir Rahman stayed with the Tigers’ Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim for a 44-run stand in 5.1 overs in the fourth pair to carry the team total to 118 for 4 in 14.3 overs from 74 for 3 in 9.2 overs.Opener Tamim Iqbal departed from the crease scoring 29 off 24 balls with three fours and one six before being caught by Vusi Sibanda off Graeme Cremer bowling when the scoreboard was showing 58 for 2 in 6.4 overs.Mushfiqur Rahim followed Sabbir soon as he was caught by Sikandar Raza off a Wellington Masakadza delivery at 125 for 5 in 15.5 overs scoring 26 off 19 balls with three fours.World famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hit unbeaten 20 off 13 balls with two fours while debutant Nurul Hasan added not out 7 off 5 balls with one four.Graeme Cremer grabbed two wickets for 32 runs in four overs while Sean Williams, Wellington Masakadza and Luke Jongwe took one wicket each for 22, 25 and 45 runs in 3, 4 and 3.4 overs respectively.

Earlier, opening bat after winning the toss, visiting Zimbabwe posted a fighting total of 163 for 7 in 20 overs spurred by the opening pair of 101 in 12 overs between Hamilton Masakadza and Visu Sibanda.Hamilton Masakadza who was adjudged man of the match hit the highest 79 off 53 balls featuring nine fours and two sixes before falling victim of runout at 127/2 in 14.4 overs.Opener Visu Sibanda was caught by Tamim Iqbal off an all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan delivery scoring 46 off 39 balls with four fours and two sixes.Number three batsman Malcolm Waller (14 off 8b; 2×4) was the other double figure scorer for Zimbabwe.Delivering four overs each, off-cutter sensation Mustafizur Rahman and pacer Al-Amin Hossain grabbed two wickets apiece for 18 and 24 runs respectively. Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket conceding 45 runs also in four overs.All-rounder Shuvagata Hom and wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan made their T20 debuts for Bangladesh.The rest three T20 matches will be held on January 17, 20 and 22 at the same venue.
