BGB hands over 2 abducted Myanmar soldiers


Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed over two members of Myanmar army, who were rescued near the Bangladesh-Myanmar-India border in Bandarban district on Tuesday, to Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) on Friday.
BGB handed over the soldiers to BGP in a short flag meeting held at Mytri Bridge of Ghungdum Border area around 11:40am.
A five-member BGB team led by BGB battalion-17 commanding officer Lt Col Robiul Islam attended the flag meeting on behalf of Bangladesh.The meeting lasted 10 to 12 minutes. Major Amir of BGB’s Cox’s Bazar Sector HQ confirmed the news to journalists.
Earlier on Tuesday, BGB rescued the two members of Myanmar Army, who were reportedly abducted by separatists of the neighboring country, from the tri-junction area along Bangladesh-Myanmar-India border in Bandarban. BBC reported them to be Arakanese militia.
BGB Deputy Director General Colonel Khandaker Farid Hossain said in a press briefing on Wednesday that the BGB members had been on a special drive in the tri-junction area along the border of the three countries in Bandarban on Tuesday.
During the drive, they found two Myanmar nationals in a jungle near the main pillar No 67, he said.
While being interrogated, the rescued victims identified them as members of Myanmar Army, the BGB official said, adding that they are fine now. – UNB
