Blind Saiful scored GPA 5 at HSC Examination

Dhaka – Though blind since birth and indigent, a determined Saiful Islam has achieved GPA -5 in the recently published HSC Exam of Dhaka Board (Humanities group) from Mirpur Bangla Government College, Dhaka this year. He is now moving from pillar to post for help and assistance for continuing his higher education at a public university.
For this success, he says, he is grateful to Mamtazuddin-Director, Chandpur DPOD (Disabled People’s Organisation to Development), his college teachers and especially College’s Hostel Super Majharul Huque Masud who extended him their kind cooperation and proper guide.
Saiful is the only educated son among his three other brothers and two sisters who are not so educated. He hails from Miji Bari at Dakshin Koroitoli village under Paikpara union in Faridganj Upazila of the district. His parents are day labourer Abul Kalam Miji and housewife Rasheda Begum. They are so impoverished to educate him. One fine morning, Momtazuddin –Director of Chandpur DPOD- an NGO (Disabled People’s
Organisation for Development) and local teachers encouraged meritorious Saiful to carry on his education as he has merit, eagerness and knack for further education. Mother Rasheda also encouraged the son ‘to be self- reliant through education in stead of being a blind beggar for life’.’. Momtazuddin got him admitted to Dalalbazar Integrated School for the Blind in the neighbouring Roypur Upazila under Luxmipur district and then he passed the SSC Exam 2015 under Comilla Board obtaining A grade. In 2015, he had his admission in the HSC class at Mirpur Government Bangla College, Dhaka.
Talking to this correspondent, Saiful said, ‘I am determined to take higher education at the DU’. But his poor parents are now thinking much about how their son will have his admission in the DU. They think, if Saiful gets a chance for admission in DU, how he will carry on his higher education either? These random thoughts are disturbing their minds. They are passing days and nights in great worries. They and Saiful think and expect, if affluent people or any NGO helps, it is not a problem for him. They and Saiful have also drawn the kind attention of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to this vital matter.
Parents, as well as Saiful, are looking forward to getting help from PM’s Education Fund. – Staff Reporter
