Dhaka – The BNP has deferred again the date of its planned rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to November 12 instead of November 11 to mark the party’s “National Revolution and Solidarity Day.”Earlier, the BNP had fixed November 8 and later November 11 to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters that they are yet to get permission from police but he expressed his hope that they would be allowed to hold the rally.
“We are yet to get formal permission from the government. But we have been given assurance to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 12,” he said.
Briefing reporters at party central office at Naya Paltan, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also hoped that the government won’t create an obstruction to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 12.
He alleged that the government “intentionally” did not allow the BNP to visit and place a wreath at the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on a pretext of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) conference.
“The government has not allowed the BNP to go to BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman’s mazar on the pretext of CPA conference. They have imposed section 144 in the area intentionally,” he alleged.
Mirza Alamgir mentioned they pay homage to the memory of president Ziaur Rahman each year by placing wreaths at his mazar.
“Unfortunately, the government has deprived us from our rights this time,” he alleged.
The BNP leader said the people lost their confidence on the government while the BNP is carrying movement to fulfill the hopes and aspiration of the people.
He said the rally date has been deferred due to different causes.
“We hope that the government will not create any obstruction to hold the rally. If they create any obstacle, it will be proved again that the government does not believe in democracy,” he added.
Meanwhile, an official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said they are yet to give permission to hold BNP’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The BNP applied for venue for thrice , decision will be taken considering the prevailing situation,” he added. – Staff Reporter
