Dhaka, March 22 – The BNP has convened a joint meeting of the party central leaders and another meeting with leaders of 20-party leaders on Saturday to discuss the latest development in the political arena and strategies for next course of action demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.The joint meeting of the BNP will be held in the morning at chairperson’s Gulshan office at 10:00am on Saturday with party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair. Members of party standing committee, vice chairmen, chairperson’s advisers, joint secretaries general and organising secretaries will take part in the meeting, according to party sources.
The meeting of the 20-party will be held at 7:00pm in the same day and at the same venue also with Mirza Alamgir in the chair, said the sources.
BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the overall situation in the country would come up in the discussion in the joint meeting.
He said the party leaders would also discuss the organizational affairs as the party has already formed 37 organising teams to tour to city and districts levels.
The former minister said termed the 20-party meeting a regular and follow up meeting to discuss among the alliance leaders and give them hearing about the next course of action.
Secretary general of Bangladesh NAP Golam Mostafa said the 20-party meeting is likely to discuss the issue of Khaleda’s release and alliance strategies to deal with the prevailing situation.
Meanwhile, speaking at a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed put emphasis the need to take tough action to free the former premier from jail.
“Only carrying out legal battles is not enough to release Khaleda on bail. We have to take to the streets to free her,” he said while speaking the meeting organized by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal. Abdul Halim MIah, vice president of the organisaiton presided over the meeting.
In another development, speaking another discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the ruling Awami League has fallen into a hole and it cannot get out from it.
Criticising the government for celebrating the development, he questioned whether anyone hard that such celebration anywhere in the world.
The former minister said there was no development of the country and its people rather the ruling partymen ensured their development.
Zia Parishad organized the meeting with its president Kabir Murad in the chair. – Staff Reporter
