BNP demand judicial inquiry of Brahmanbaria attack

Dhaka-The BNP yesterday demanded formation of a judicial probe into the recent attacks on the temples and homes of Hindu community at Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria.“We want the government to carryout a judicial inquiry to identify the perpetrators behind the attacks on Hindu Community,” said BNP vice chairman Maj (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed.
Talking to reporters after visiting the affected areas at Nasirnagar, he said the BNP does not want to do politics centering the issue rather it wants giving exemplary punishment to culprits.
Earlier, a 10-member BNP delegation led by Maj (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed visited different temples and houses of Hindu community in the areas and talked to the community people.
The BNP leader said on behalf of the delegation they would hold a press conference today to disclose the initial findings of their visit to the affected areas.
Later, he said, the delegation will submit a report to the party chairperson on the overall situation.
The other members of the delegation include—BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan, BNP chairperson’s advisers–Sanjit Chowdhury and Ekramuzzaman, BNP’s rural development affairs secretary Goutam Chakraborty, Sushil Barua, Barrister Rumin Farhana, Advocate Fahima Munni, Ukil nAbdus Sattar and Advocate Ziauddin.
District and upazila BNP leaders accompanied them during the visit.
An unruly mob of hundreds of people on Sunday demolished a number of temples to the ground along with vandalising hundreds of houses of the Hindu community at Nasirnagar upazila reportedly in response to a Facebook post making satire of the Masjid al-Haram, the holy site of Muslims.-STAFF REPORTER
