Dhaka-A senior BNP leader has expressed his doubt whether all the nine militants killed during the police raid at their den at Kallayanpur in the city in the hourly hours of yesterday were in the reality militants.“Police has claimed that all the nine people killed during Kallayanpur drive were militants. But we suspect that there are also innocent people among the causalities,” said BNP standing committee member Brig Gen (Retd) ASM Hannan Shah.
Speaking at a discussion meeting at Photojournalists Association, he argues that there were hundreds of police men during the Gulshan militant attack but police did not go for confronting them though the number of militants was only 5-7.
“Whenever police speaks about gun battles, people suspect whether the casualties are really the criminals or the innocent people were killed,” he justified.
NAP-BHasani organized the meeting to mark its 59th founding anniversary with Advocate Azharul Islam, president of the organization, in the chair.
Meanwhile, BNP vice chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain while speaking in a different function also questioned the killing of all militants instead of taking them into custody.
“We have no reservation if there you find our link with militants and hang through trial. We are also against militancy. You should curb militancy but it trial should be through law,” he said while speaking at a roundtable at Jaitya Press Club.
Bangladesh Youth Forum organized the function with Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, adviser of the forum in the chair.
In another development, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal yesterday staged demonstration in the city protesting sentencing BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case.-STAFF REPORTER
