Warning that a plot is on to spread militancy in the country, BNP on Wednesday urged the government to take stern action against those involved in the recent killings of bloggers, clerics and right activists after identifying them through proper investigation.
“We’ve seen the countries where militancy speared had to pay heavy prices. Now there is a plot to hit the country with militancy. But, the government instead of tackling it is only blaming opposition to hush up the heinous incidents,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
He further said, “We hope the government will properly look into all the incidents and mete out punishment to the perpetrators. Or else anything bad can happen in the country and the government will be responsible for it.”
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh marking the 117 birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Criticising the government for involving BNP with any secret killing, Fakhrul said the investigation is hampered when the ministers directly blame BNP after any incident.
He alleged that a deep-rooted conspiracy is being hatched to destroy BNP so that the nationalist and patriotic forces cannot stand raising their heads above to protect the country’s interest.
The BNP leader also alleged that the government is conspiring to send their chairperson Khaleda Zia to jail. “Fifteen cases were filed against her. Now, they’re conspiring how to send her to jail.”
He called upon the party men to get united to foil any plot against the party and restore people’s all rights, including voting one. “We’re now passing through a bad time. We’ve to pay dearly if we create division and conflict among us instead of getting united.”
