Dhaka – BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia On Saturday emphasised on the need for establishing a link among the all education systems operating in Bangladesh to carry forward the country ahead.“We will build such an education system so that education will not only be a hammer of achieving degrees but it will be a hammer to survive in a good condition,” she said while speaking at a national seminar at Dhaka Ladies Club in the city.
The former premier accused the present government of deterioration of educational standard by increasing the percentage of passes. “We have to acknowledged today that our educational standard has been deteriorated by increasing the percentage of passage because of self satisfaction,” she said.
“If we cannot overcome the situation we will our progress will be hampered in future and we will be remain behind to compete internationally,” she said.
The BNP for the first time organized such a sector wise seminar on “Present Education System in Bangladesh and Our Future” detailing the party’s Vision 2030 which was placed by the chairperson on Wednesday.
University teachers and academics presented five keynote papers on the topic and took part in the discussions.
The BNP supremo, who was speaking at the concluding session as the chief guest, said education enlightens the lives of people and gives dignity. “That’s why a skill life based education system is essential to make the Bangladesh’s people capable to compete with other in the international arena,” she said.
“I am not an educationist, but while I ruled the country in different terms it came to my notice that a massive changes should be brought in our education system. Such a change is necessary which will reflect hopes and aspirations of the people and benefits of education will reach to all of them,” she elaborated.
Khaleda said, education would be treated as an identity and media to introduce us in the globe as a dignified nation that could not be achieved through some money and wealth of some people.
She regretted that the education gives lessons to be respectful to democracy and different views but the present government undermined the fundamental aims of the education.
“They claimed that they carried forward in the education sector but ultimately they destroyed the country and snatched the independence of freedom of express,” she said.
She said the BNP would take measures to turn the education system pro-people and free the youth from the greed of archiving degrees.
The BNP wants to ensure employment for educated youth. Initiatives have to be taken to higher educated and trained youths for self employment, she said.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who chaired the concluding session, alleged that the government pushed the education system towards an anarchic situation consciously to turn the nation without merit.
In his keynote paper, Prof Mahbubullah out emphasized the need to build morale man, morale society and capable man to build a coordinated education system in the country.
Earlier, former Dhaka University vice chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, Dr Md Sirajul Islam and Dr ANM Salahuddin, Prof Dr Mohammed Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dr Md Sabbir MOstafa Khan and Dr Engineer Mohammed Iqbal and Prof Shah Shamim Ahmed presented separate keynote papers. – Staff Reporter
