Dhaka, Sept 23 – BNP leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was indicted in a case filed for amassing wealth worth Tk 9.10 crore and hiding information of his wealth. Mosharraf Hossain, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Shamim Ahmed of the Special Judge Court-8 of Dhaka on Sunday read out the charges to him.
After framing charges against Mosharraf Hossain, the judge fixed October 25, to begin with, the trial of the case.
On January 10 of 2008, Assistant Director Shafiul Alam of the Anti-Corruption (ACC) filed the case against Mosharraf Hossain and his wife Bilkis Akhter Hossain with Ramna Model Police Station in this regard.
On September 17, 2008, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Aftab Hossain, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charges to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
The charge sheet says, Mosharraf Hossain had amassed wealth worth Tk 9,10,97,854 illegally and concealed information of wealth worth Tk 4,31,51,801 to Anti-Corruption Commission.
But the ACC could not press charges against his wife Bilkis Akhter as the High Court Division had quashed the proceedings of the case brought against her. – Special Correspondent
