BNP leader Minu surrenders in Rajshahi court, sent to prison

Rajshahi City BNP leader Mizanur Rahman Minu has been sent to prison after he surrendered in court to seek bail in a number of violence-related cases.The joint secretary general was wanted in seven cases of violence unleashed earlier this year.He had gone to the magistrate’s court on Monday seeking bail.However, Metropolitan Magistrate Joyonti Rani Das dismissed his appeals in three cases lodged with Motihar police, while her colleague Mokseda Ajgar turned down pleas in three of the four cases registered with Boalia police.The former Rajshahi mayor had secured bail from High Court in the one remaining case pertaining to a bomb attack on Boalia police.Minu’s lawyer Roisul Islam said the BNP leader was driven away in a prison van around 12:45pm, immediately after the orders.A large number of city leaders of the party and pro-BNP lawyers had gathered at the courtyard during the hearing.
