BNP plans rally in Dhaka for Khaleda’s release


Dhaka, July 16 – BNP wants to hold a rally either in front of Jatiya Press Club or in front of party central office on Friday (July 20) demanding unconditional release of party chairperson Khaleda Zithe a and provide her proper treatment. Senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the demand at a press conference at party central office at Naya Paltan in the city.
He said application has been sent to the authorities mentioning the names of two places where movement of people are less on Friday because of the weekend and Juma prayers.
“We want to hold a rally in Dhaka on Friday. Rallies will also be held at city, district and upazila level across the country on the same issue,” he said.
Rizvi alleged that the jail authorities do not allow us to know about the health condition of the former premier and they obstructed her family members to meet her on Saturday.
“The jail authorities are not only reluctant over the treatment of deshnetri (Khaleda). Rather question arise whether they are going ahead with a severe planning at the government directives,” he said.
The BNP leader condemned such behavour of the government not to allow Khaleda’s relatives to meet her and demanded taking necessary measures for proper treatment of the party chairperson after providing her release.
Criticizing the statement of Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader that the three city polls in Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet would be fair like Khulna and Gazipur and alleged that Quader gave an indication of vote riggings also in the three city polls.
BNP vice chairman Shawkat Mahmud, Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, Abdus Salam Azad, among others, were present at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Dhaka city unit of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal yesterday brought out a procession in the city demanding the release of Khaleda Zia, Juba Dal general secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and organizing secretary Mamun Hasan.
President of Dhaka Juba Dal (North) SM Jahangir Hossain and general secretary Shafiqul Islam Milton led the procession brought out in Mirpur section number 6. – Staff Reporter
