Body of missing young army officer found in Sangu river

Bandarban – The body of a Bangladesh Army personnel was recovered from the Sangu River in Roangchhari upazila of the hill district of Bandarban on Tuesday morning, two days after his was reported missing.The deceased, identified as Lieutenant Tanvir Mahmud, 22, was posted at Betchhara army camp.
Sources at the camp said a patrol team of the army recovered the body floating in the Sangu River at Tarasa point of the upazila around 7.00am Today.
Autopsy of the body was conducted at the district hospital morgue before it was sent to the deceased’s village home Rajballabpur village in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla.
On Saturday, Tanvir went to the camp ghat for bathing and since then he remained traceless.
Later, several rescue teams comprising Bangladesh Navy divers and members of the Air Force and army with the help of local fishermen conducted operation in the river to recover the body.
The deceased’s father Abu Taher said Tanvir had joined Bangladesh Army as a commissioned officer (Batch 64) in 2009.
He was transferred to the camp from Jessore cantonment just six days before the tragic end of his life. – Agencies
