The Book Fair opened yesterday in the city has been drawing huge number of people in all walks of life.The eight- day long Book Fair, an elegant calendar event for book lovers and publishers, began at Khulna Circuit House ground in the city on Saturday.
Patronised by Cultural Affairs Ministry, the ‘Jatiya Grantha Kendra’ arranged the book fair with the support of the district administration.
Lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan inaugurated the Book Fair as the chief guest while Khulna deputy commissioner Amin-ul- Ahsan chaired the ceremony.
Additional divisional commissioner Faruk Hossain, Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Additional Police Commissioner Mahbub Hakim, spoke the function as special guests. Director of Jatiya Grantha Kendra Nazrul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
Expressing their solidarity with the spirit of Liberation War, the speakers demanded upholding the spirit of language movement and freedom fighting.
The speakers said, without literacy a nation can’t upgrade their culture and history. So the book fair will help new generation be familiar with the spirit of Language Movement and War of Liberation.
While visiting the fair premises on Sunday this correspondent found that different GO-NGO book traders are seen busy for stall decoration and illumination.
A total of 67 stalls including books, foods and media have been decorated at the fair premises.
Deputy Commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan said that special security measures were taken at the fair premises.
Seminar, discussion, unveiling of new books and cultural programs is holding every day.
Wi-Fi facilities are available at the fair premises. The fair is open from 3.00pm to 8.00pm every day, reports BSS from Khulna.
