BPL Football: Farashganj SC relegated 


Dhaka – Farashganj Sporting Club have been relegated from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football after lowly Rahmatganj MFS earned an stunning 2-0 goals victory over the 4th ranked Saif Sporting Club in their last league match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.Shaheed put Rahmatganj MFS ahead in the very 2nd minute while Sohel Rana sealed the fate of the match scoring the 2nd goal in the 34th minute in the day’s relegation decider.Earlier, bottom ranked Farashganj SC brightened their chance to avoid the relegation with a 3-1 goals victory over league runners-up Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in their last league match on Thursday, but the day’s Rahmatganj’s win against mighty Saif SC shattered their all hopes to stay in the prestigious top league.After the day’s match, old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj MFS advanced to the 11th slot in the 12-team league securing 18 points from all 22 league encounters while another old Dhaka outfit Farashganj SC finished bottom with 17 points from all 22 matches to be relegated to the lower division Bangladesh Championship League.Farashganj SC were also axed from BPL Football two years back for leaving the field opposing a decision of match referee, but finally they stayed in the league with a favour of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).Dhaka Abahani Limited clinched the 6th BPL Football title out of 10 securing 52 points while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club finished distant runners-up with 47 points, Chittagong Abahani Limited placed 3rd collecting 44 points and newcomers Saif SC became 4th having 41 points, playing all the 22 matches.UNB news agency
