Bus strike in Khulna div enters 5th day


The indefinite transport strike, enforced by the Bus Owners and Sramik Oikya Parishad of the south-western region, entered its fifth day on Saturday.Bus services between the capital and 10 southeastern districts of Khulna division have remained suspended due to the strike.The association enforced the strike on Tuesday morning protesting the arrest of three staff of bus operator ‘Shohag Paribahan’.The strike also entered second day on the 18 routes of the southern region covering Barisal, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions from Friday to fulfill their three-point demand, including release of Modhukhali police station officer-in-charge and unconditional release of the three staff of ‘Sohagh Poribahan’.Earlier, a gang of robbers stormed a Benapole-bound bus of ‘Shohag Paribahan’ from Dhaka in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district early Tuesday.The bandits looted cash, ornaments and other valuables from the bus passengers.Later, police arrested three staff of the bus—driver Ainal, his helper Apu and checker Ratan—in connection with the incident. –UNB, Khulna
