Terming the Tuesday’s city polls as “mockery and farce”, Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad on Thursday demanded cancellation of the polls and hold fresh elections in the three city corporation in Dhaka and Chittagong.
Ruhul Amin Gazi, acting president of the organization made the demand at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club protesting what they said protesting the unprecedented rigging and holding farcical polls.
“The Election Commission has conducted the April 28 polls as farcical manner as it did in the January 5 national polls. The polls have ashamed the history of democracy of the nation. The dwellers of Dhaka and Chittagong witnessed a vote coup during the city polls,” he said.
Gazi termed the statement of Chief Election Commissioner as shameful and it is like insulting the voters. He claimed that not more than 10 per cent voters cast their votes.
He further said the EC has no control over the law enforcing agencies rather it played a loyal role to the government.
