Case against Rubel goes to women, children tribunal

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday transferred the case against cricketer Rubel Hossain on the charge of raping actress Naznin Akhter Happy to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka.
Judge Ataul Haque of the CMM Court passed the order in presence of bowler Rubel Hossain, after hearing the final report. Earlier on April 6 the police submitted to the court.Inspector Halima Khatun of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Women Support and Investigation Centre (Victim Support Centre) submitted the report, that says the allegation could not be substantiated. ‘No evidence has been found to prove the rape as alleged by Happy earlier,’ the report added.
Happy filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station on December 13 last year alleging the cricketer had backed off from his promised marriage after nine months of intimate relationship. But Rubel claimed that she was ‘blackmailing’ him.
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court granted Rubel a four-week anticipatory bail on December 15. Later, on January 8, he appeared to the CMM Court seeking an extension while the court sent him to the jail. However, the cricketer was released from the jail three days after. Later, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka granted him bail.
On January 14, a Dhaka court allowed him to travel Australia and New Zealand to play in the World Cup and exempted the pacer from physical appearance in the case. – Court Correspondent
