Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad joined office on Tuesday after 43 days of stay in the United States. He returned home on Monday. Rakibuddin along with his wife went to the USA on March 3 amid the countrywide staggered upazila elections marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Election Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mobarak was the acting CEC in his absence. During his stay there, Rakibuddin met with World Bank officials at its headquarters in Washington and discussed the Election Commission’s project of introducing smart national identity cards, EC Secretariat sources said. – UNB
