Dhaka – Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Thursday said the police will check any possible irregularities during the upcoming Union Parishad elections.
“The police will check all kinds of irregularities till having their last bullet,” he said.
The CEC was talking to reporters after a meeting with top law enforcement officials at the National Economic Council auditorium over the first phase of the UP polls to be held on March 22.
The CEC also said the election officers-in-charge and other law enforcers will make sure that there is no ballot stuffing overnight, while police will check any untoward incidents during voting hours at polling stations.
Rakib said those who stuff ballots are a handful of miscreants who belong to no specific political parties and they will face toughest action if caught.
Asked whether there is any pressure from the government over UP polls, he trashed such claims saying there has been no contact from them in this regard. – News desk
