Celebrating 18th Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Day

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka celebrates its 18th founding day observed as the “University Day” on July 15 2018. The Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University is the oldest and most accomplished higher agricultural education institution of the Indian sub-continent. The SAU was established by the then Chief Minister of Bengal Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Haq in 1938 as the Bengal Agricultural Institute. On 15 July 2001, the then and present Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina upgraded the then Bangladesh Agricultural Institute (BAI) to Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.Since its establishment, graduates of this higher agricultural institution have been contributing enormously to the agricultural as well as other fields of development of the country. The SAU has so far earned the reputation of an internationally recognized agricultural university. In addition to academic function, the SAU is performing joint research in various disciplines of agricultural and social sciences with different universities and research institutions of the world.
Currently, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University has four faculties and one institute with a number of affiliated institutions. Formation of some more faculties is under process.
The Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University is marching forward under the prudent and dynamic leadership of its Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Kamal Uddin Ahamed. The management is backed by Pro-VC Prof. Dr Md. Sekender Ali and Treasurer Prof. Dr Md. Anwarul Haque Beg. Sheikh Rezaul Karim is the Registrar of SAU.
On this auspicious 18th University Day, Teachers, students and all other members of the SAU family join their hands together to pledge to work even harder to make our dear Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University a hallmark of learning and education!
