Celebration of Durga Puja begins in Rangpur tomorrow

The five-day celebration of Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community, begins from tomorrow with due religious fervor and solemnity everywhere in Rangpur division.
The festival beginning from tomorrow will end on October 14 when the Hindu communities celebrate Bijoya Dashami through the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga, official sources and leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad Committees (PUPC) said. The Puja mandaps have been decorated colourfully with eye-catching looks and district administration, law enforcers and district and upazila level PUPCs have completed all necessary preparations to ensure peaceful puja celebrations. The district administrations and PUPCs sources said over 5,100 mandaps are being set up this year in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur district. Meanwhile, the government has completed distribution of 2,100 tonnes rice among the Puja mandap authorities in all 58 upazilas under eight districts in the division to assist the Hindu community in celebrating the festival. In Rangpur district, 791 Durga Puja mandaps have been erected in all eight upazilas and 322.5 tonnes rice was allocated by the government for distribution among the Puja mandap authorities. Talking to BSS, Convener of Rangpur district unit of PUPC and Trusty of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick expressed satisfaction over the preparations and steps taken by the government for peaceful celebration of the festival. The Power Development Board and Rural Electrification Board have taken special measures to provide uninterrupted power supply at nights to enable the Hindu devotees in offering their prayers, Puja, archana, kirtons and other religious rituals. The artisans are passing their busiest time at this peak hour to give finishing touches to idols of Goddess Durga with their artistic creativity and colours.The district and police administrations and other law enforcement agencies have also taking special security measures for ensuring peaceful celebration of the festival. -BSS, Rangpur
