Charge framed against 132 in petrol bomb hurling case


The District and Sessions Judge Court today framed charges against 132 Jamaat-Shibir men for hurling petrol bombs and burning six persons to death and injuring many others in Mithapukur on January 13 this year.After hearing on the charge sheet submitted by police after investigation into case, District and Sessions Judge of Rangpur Manjurul Basit took the case into cognizance and farmed charges for trial.The court also issued warrants of arrest against 86 absconding accused persons of the case as 46 of the accused persons, arrested earlier, were present during the charge-framing hearing of the case.
The next date for hearing of the case has been fixed on August 12 next, said Public Prosecutor of Rangpur Advocate Abdul Malek.The accused Jamaat-Shibir men threw petrol bombs on a passenger bus at Batason point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila at night on January 13 last during the blockade programme of the BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance.Four passengers of the Dhaka bound night coach from Kurigram, including women and children, were burnt alive to death on the spot and 25 others were seriously injured in the inhuman attacks.Later, two more of the critically burnt passengers succumbed to their injuries at the Burn Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).Sub-inspector (SI) of Mithapukur Thana Abdur Razzaque filed a case in this connection and police submitted the chargesheet before the court after investigation into the case. -BSS, Rangpur
