Chargesheet scrutiny in Khaleda’s arson case June 28


The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday set June 28 to decide on whether the three charge sheets submitted against BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia and 37 others in two cases filed for arson attack in Jatrabari area will be taken into cognizance.
Magistrate Shamsul Arefin of the CMM Court fixed the date after hearing. The court also decided to scrutinize the documents of the cases on the same day.The Detective Branch of Police submitted the charge sheets to the court on May 19 for arson attack on a bus that killed one person and burned at least 31 people. Other accused persons include, BNp Standing Committee members Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia and MK Anwar, Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, Joint-Secretaries Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Aman Ullah Aman and Barkat Ullah Bulu, Adviser to the Chairperson Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Showkat Mahmud, Special Assistant the Chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Dhaka City Membesr Secretary Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel.
On January 23, at least 31 passenger of suffered burn injuries after miscreants hurled two petrol bombs at a Glory Paribahan bus at Katherpul of Jatrabari on its way to Rupganj from Gulistan. One of the injured later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to the case statements, the BNP Chairperson on January 5 called countrywide non-stop blockade and asked leaders and activists to paralyze the country. Following her directives, her alliance men allegedly torched the bus. – Court Correspondent
