Checking early marriage to protect children from malnutrition, diseases stressed

Speakers at a function here on Wednesday stressed the need for
checking early marriage anyhow to protect children from malnutrition
and various types of diseases and its complexities.
“An emphasis is also given to the prevention of narcotics to save the
young generation from the decadence and vulnerability to have a drug
free society and stopping dropout rate and irregular attendance in
schools to build an enlightened nation,” they said.
They made the comments while addressing a pre-rally discussion meeting
to raise mass awareness among the people about the prevention of early
marriage and drug addicting and for motivating the children to go to
schools on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar of Gaibandha Poura
Park.
Promotional Research Advocacy Training Action Yard (PRATAY), an NGO,
organised the function in cooperation with UCEP Bangldesh under its
Children and Women Rights Advocacy Programme.
Sadar UNO Mamunur Rashid addressed the function as the chief guest
while advocacy officer (children rights) Mahfuzar Rahman was the
moderator.
The function was also addressed, among others, by advocacy officer,
women rights Rokshana Akter, general secretary of National Women
Council formed by UCEP Bangladesh Sultana Begum, president of National
Child Council Nayan Miah and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzman.
Cordial and coordinated efforts of all including the stakeholders are
urgently needed to bring a change in the social mindset in ensuing
children and women rights in all spheres of the society to build a
better nation, they also said.
About 300 children and women participated in a rally carrying banners,
festoons and placards inscribed with different slogans to create mass
awareness among the people about the prevention of early marriage, eve
teasing, dowry, human trafficking and throwing. -BSS, Gaibandha
