The Bangladesh Chhatrta Union has called strike in all educational institutions across Bangladesh on Monday tom protest police action injuring 30 of their activists when they held a demonstration neat the DMP office in the city early Sunday afternoon to protest the sexual harassment of women on Pohela Baishakh.
Chhatra Union has a Dhaka Metropolitan Police office gherao programme to press their demand for arrest and trial of perpetrators of the sexual harassment on women on the Bangla New Year’s Day on the Dhaka University campus.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) will stage demonstrations across the country on Monday protesting the submission of charges against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Jatrabari bus torching case.
In a statement, JCD president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Akramul Hasan announced the programme on Sunday.
The JCD men will observe the programme in all cities, district towns and educational institutions.
On Wednesday, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted charges against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others in a murder case filed over the Jatrabari arson attack on a bus during the BNP-led 20-party’s blockade on January 23.
Criticising the government for pressing the charges against Khaleda in a ‘trivial’ bus torching case, Rajib and Akram warned that the student leaders of the country will foil any conspiracy against the BNP chairperson.
