Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, the 13-year-old boy who was brutally tortured at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on Wednesday, died of brain haemorrhage, said the autopsy report on Monday.
Dr Farhana Islam of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital conducted the postmortem and found that brain haemorrhage caused his death, said officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station Akter Hossain.Rajon’s body bore 68 injury marks, said the OC quoting Dr Farhana Islam.
Earlier in the day, a local court placed Muhit Alam, the prime accused in the murder case, on a five-day remand.
Judge Farhana Yasmin of the Judicial Magistrate Court- 2 passed the order after police produced Muhit before her court seeking a seven-day remand.
Meanwhile, police arrested Muhit’s wife, and cousin Ismail Hossain Abul, 32, in connection with the gruesome murder.
Ismail was picked up from Lamakaji Mirergaon area under Jalalabad police station in the city early Monday.
Local people gave a 12-hour ultimatum to arrest the killers following a meeting of residents of 22 villages at Rajon’s house on Sunday night.
They also threatened a mass movement if the administration fails to arrest Rajon’s killers.
OC Akter Hossain also visited the meeting place at night and said police were doing everything they could to arrest the murderers.
Besides, Bangladesh Jubo Maitri Sylhet city unit formed a human chain at the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday protesting the incident.
Leaders of Jalalabad unit Bangladesh Human Rights Commission also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Rajon’s killers.
On the other hand, victim’s mother, Rubna Begum, sought the intervention of the Prime Minister for ensuring justice for her son.
“They’ve beaten my son to death. Now as I can’t get back my son, I want punishment of the killers,” she said.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday said those involved in the brutal murder of the teenage boy would not be spared.
“The killers will be brought to book and stern actions will be taken against them,” he said while talking to reporters at his ministry office.
The junior minister said one alleged killer, who was arrested earlier in connection with the killing, has already been put on a five-day remand and another has been arrested. “The other killers will be hunted down soon,” he said.
The law enforcement agencies have been ordered to arrest the culprits and are continuing their manhunt to arrest them, he added.
Earlier on July 8, Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in sadar upazila, was tortured to death by a mob over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which caused an outcry.
The video showed that the killers beat the teenager on his legs with a rod asking him ridiculously whether he was happy. As the boy prayed for mercy saying he was happy, the attackers said if he was happy at one strike, then the happiness will double if he was beaten more.
The video footage of the teenage boy being brutally tortured to death has triggered an outcry across the country.
Local people caught Muhit, 26, while taking the body to another place for dumping, and handed him over to police.
Jalalabad police filed a case against four people, including Muhit, his brother Quamrul Islam, 24, their associate, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, and guard Moyna Mia alias Boro Moyna, 45, in this connection.- UNB
