China wants Bangladesh to be on its side: BNP



Dhaka – Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his desire to have Bangladesh at China’s side in geopolitics, BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir says after Xi’s meeting with his party chief Khaleda Zia.
The BNP chairperson met Xi on Friday afternoon at Le Méridien hotel in Dhaka.Khaleda and Xi discussed issues relating to the mutual interest of the two countries during the 40-minute meeting that began at 5:25pm, Mirza Fakhrul said.
“Bangladesh always hopes that China cooperates with them (Bangladesh) in development work and stand by their side,” he said adding “China also expects Bangladesh’s strong support in its development activities and the role it is playing in the geopolitical field.”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul, who was present at the meeting, said Khaleda spoke about the role of her husband, late president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, in developing Bangladesh-China ties in the meeting.
Besides Mirza Fakhrul, BNP Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman and Nazrul Islam Khan, Vice-Chirman Sabih Uddin Ahmed and the Chairperson’s Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were present in the meeting.
A number of Chinese ministers and Ambassador in Dhaka Ma Mingqiang accompanied Xi. – Agencies
