Citizens doubt Tonu murder investigation: HR body chief

Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Prof Mizanur Rahman on Sunday said doubts have been created in the minds of ordinary citizen on the investigation of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria College.“The delay in Tonu murder probe has also created doubts whether the course of investigation of the murder will be diverted to a different course,” he said while addressing an international conference on Human Rights and Criminal Justice Delivery System in the city.
He said not only Tonu, but after every murder police claim that they arte very close to unravelling the mystery behind the murder but in reality such words are implemented less.
The human rights watchdog chief termed the conventional criminal justice system “grossly faulty” and “influenced.”
He alleged that the law enforcers refuse to accept victims’ general diaries or first information reports (FIR).
Sohagi was sexually abused and murdered in the Comilla cantonment area on March 20 when she was returning from a tuition. – Staff Reporter
