Community policing for peace, preventing repression


Speakers a views-sharing meeting have stressed for strengthening activities of the community policing, involving the common people, to ensure peace in the society, prevent repression and violence against women.Mominpur union Community Policing Committee organised the views-sharing meeting on ‘Law & Order and Prevention of Women Repression’ at Mominpur union parishad premises under Sadar upazila in the district on Sunday afternoon.The District Community Policing Coordination Committee, District Police and The Asia Foundation extended assistance in arranging the meeting under courtesy of the ‘Islam Project in Preventing Torture
against Females.’Additional Superintendent of Police Joynul Abedin attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest with former Chairman of Mominpur union Mahbub Alam Chowdhury in the chair.Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir,Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Than Abdul Kader Zilani, Director of the
Islam and Development Programme of The Asia Foundation Nazrul Islam,Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, Professor Dr Akkas Ali, Major (Retd) Nasim, Acting Chairman of Mominpur union Zulfiquer Ali Bhutto,addressed, among others.Islamic thinker Moulana Abdul Mannan delivered welcome speech narrating the activities being conducted by the local Imams under the project with assistance of The Asia Foundation for preventing repression, torture and violence against women.Representative of the ‘Islam Project in Preventing Torture against Females’ Moulana Mahbubul Hassan narrated the goals and objectives of the project to prevent repression and torture and violence against women in the light of Islam.Member-secretary of the District Community Policing Coordination Committee Shushanto Bhowmick narrated the activities of the community policing in maintaining law and order as well as preventing repression, violence and torture women.He highly lauded role of the local Imams in preventing repression and violence against women and maintaining peace in the society through inspiring the local people in preventing all sorts of social crimes.In his speech, the chief guest put emphasis on bridging of the police and common people on mutual trust and confidence for further strengthening community policing activities to curb all sorts of
social crimes in improving law and order situation.He called upon the common people to come forward and work unitedly with police through building mutual trust, partnership and information sharing for preventing social crimes to establish peace in every sector of the society.BSS, Rangpur
