A Comilla court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide the report of a DNA test it conducted on slain Sohagi Jahan Tonu`s body to the medical board formed for her 2nd Autopsy
Judge of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Mostahin Billah passed the order on Sunday. Comilla Sadar Upazila Sub-Court inspector Badal Chandra Roy confirmed the order on Sunday night. The copy of the order was sent to the CID’s Comilla office on Sunday night. Comilla, UNB News Agency Reported.
Although samples of DNA may be collected during an autopsy, DNA test results – if and when they are carried out – are not always included in autopsy reports.
In this case, DNA testing of samples found on Tonu’s clothing were in fact carried out by the CID of its own accord, bypassing Dr Saha and the Medical Board formed at CMCH who were busy with a second autopsy.
The knowledge of the CID’s test has only served to act as another cause to delay the release of the 2nd autopsy report. Chief of the said medical board as well as head of the Forensic Department of Comilla Medical College Hospital Dr Kamda Prosad Saha said they had “heard” of the order.
The corpse of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second-year student of the history department of Comilla Victoria College as well as a prominent member of her college theatre group, was recovered inside Comilla’s Mainamati Cantonment area on March 20.
