Court orders DNA test of Kalyanpur militants & their parents


A court here on Sunday asked the authorities concerned to conduct DNA test of the nine suspected militants who were killed in police firing during the recent Kalyanpur operation and their parents and relatives.Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mazharul Islam passed the order following three petitions filed by inspector of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Mohammad Jahangir Alam, also the investigation officer of the case filed under the Anti-terrorism Act.
In a petition, the investigation officer sought the court directive to conduct the DNA test of the militants after collecting samples of their blood, excreta, bones and important organs to be sure whether they took any drug or chemicals at that night.
The second petition was filed for conducting DNA test of the parents and relatives of the nine slain suspected militants to ensure their identities.
In the third petition, the officer sought the court directive to preserve the profiles of the dead militants in the CID laboratory.
Later, the court granted the three petitions after its observation.
Meanwhile, another court sent the four people, who were arrested from the building, ‘Taj Manjil’, to jail after their two-day remand period.
Metropolitan magistrate Nurun Nahar Yasmin passed the order after sub-inspector Bazlur Rahman of Mirpur Police Station produced them before the court.
Those landed in jail are Mazharul Islam, Mahfujul Alam, Mominuddin and Jakir Hossain.
Earlier, house owner’s wife Momtaj Parvin was also placed on remand on Wednesday for interrogation.
In the one-hour long shootout, nine militants, Abdullah, Abu Hakim Nayeem, Tajul Haque Rashik, Aqifuzzaman Khan, Shehjad Rauf, Md Matiur Rahman, Raihan Kabir, Md Zubair Hossain and another unidentified militant, were killed.
