he High Court on Wednesday summoned the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and its assistant director to appear before the court on January 5 next to explain contempt of court charges.An HC bench comprising Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah passed the order following a petition filed for contempt of court for not complying with its earlier order.
Besides, the court issued a rule asking the government why legal action would not be taken against seven officials, including the DSHE DG and education secretary, for contempt of court charges.
They have been asked to reply to the rule within two weeks.
Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain and ARM Kamruzzaman Kakan stood for the petitioners.
On January 11, 2010, mentioning that the appointment of four teachers and a computer operator of Rangpur Model College was illegal, the DSHE served letters to the five informing them about the cancellation of their MPO (monthly payment order) facilities, and asked them to reimburse their salaries and allowances they had enjoyed under MPO from the college.
The four college teachers were Ahsan Habib (Chemistry), Taiyab Mia (Accounts), Kazi Khaled (Philosophy) and Jikrul Islam (English) while the computer operator was Mominur Rahman.
Later, the five filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the notices served by the DSHE.
On January 27 of the same year, the High Court stayed the order and issued a rule in this regard.
On November 24 this year, the DSHE issued another notice asking why the MPO of the four teachers and the computer operator would not be withheld. It also asked them to refund their remuneration and sent the main copy of the bank slip to the DSHE within seven days.
Later, Taiyab Mia with others filed a contempt petition on December 8 against the DSHE.
