Court takes case against cricketer Shahadat, wife


The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka on Thursday took into cognizance the charge sheet of the case against cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Nitto in a case filed for allegedly torturing their domestic help.Judge of the tribunal Tanzina Ismail took the charges into cognizance against the couple and fixed February 22 for framing charges. However, the tribunal granted bail to Nitto.On December 29, last, police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the CMM Court of Dhaka against Shahadat and Nitto. Officer-in-Charge (Investigation), Mirpur Model Police Station, Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Mirpur Model Police Station, submitted the charge sheet. Twelve people were made prosecution witnesses in the case.On December 8, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court granted bail to Shahadat until March 31 while Nitto was granted bail until January 17 on December 1, last year.On October 4, police arrested Nitto from Pabna Lane at Malibagh area in the capital. The following day, Shahadat surrendered to the court and sought bail to the court through his lawyer. The court then sent him to the jail rejecting his bail pleas. On September 6, Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, was found lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area of Pallabi in Dhaka. Happy said that Shahdat and his wife tortured her. The couple went into hiding after the incident.On September 7, journalist Mojammel Hossain, filed the case against the couple with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000. – Special Correspondent
