CPB, BSD demand immediate arrest of N’ganj killers

Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) at a protest rally on Wednesday voiced their concern over the government’s failure to arrest the main culprits of seven murders of Narayanganj although 17 days have elapsed after the incident. They also criticised the government and the police administration for not complying with the High Court order to arrest the three former officials of Rab-11. The leaders of the left-leaning parties observed that the incident of the gruesome killings of Narayanganj proved that the country’s law-and-order situation is very vulnerable. The CPB and SPB jointly organised the protest rally in front of the National Press Club as part of their demonstrations across the country protesting against the countrywide kidnapping, forced disappearance and killings and demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers. Chaired by SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman, the rally was also addressed by CPB general secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, SPB central leader Bazlur Rashid Firoz, CPB leader Sayed Altaf Hossain, Ahsan Habib Lublo and SPB leader Jahedul Haque Milo. In his address, Khalequzzaman demanded immediate arrest of the three former Rab officials who were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of the seven people, including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, and their exemplary punishment. He also alleged that the government has failed to ensure security of the people. The SPB leader also demanded immediate resignation of Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, alleging that his son Dipu Chowdhury was also involved in the incident as he allegedly brokered the deal between the kidnappers and the masterminds. – UNB
