Ctg Customs House revenue officer in jail for alleged graft

Dhaka, Jan 11 – A Chittagong court yesterday sent Nazim Uddin, a revenue officer of the Chattogram Customs House, to jail in connection with a bribery case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against him. Judge Osman Gani, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Chattogram, sent him jail after rejecting his bail prayer.
Earlier, on Thursday, the ACC detained him from his office with Tk 6 lakh in suspected bribe money.
The anti-graft watchdog raided his office on the ground floor of the customs house on Thursday after receiving a complaint on its hotline.
Nazim has been temporarily suspended, said Fayzur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of the customs.
After receiving the complaint, the ACC Director General Mohammad Munir Chowdhury directed the ACC’s Chattogram office to investigate the matter. Following the instruction, the ACC officials led by its Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam raided the office and found Tk 6 lakh in a drawer and finally arrested him.
Talking to journalists ACC Director General Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said that the commission would continue its drive against corrupted people to eradicate corruption from the society.
“We will continue our drive against corrupt people whoever he or she may be. Nobody will exempt from ACC if he or she commits corruption,” he said.
He said that the commission is now conducting its drive more confidently for removing corruption from the country as the present government is determined to root out corruption from the country. – Staff Reporter
