Ctg to see massive changes amid dev spree: Minister

Dhaka – Housing and Public Works Minister Eng Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday said Chittagong will see a drastic change within the next 5-10 years following the massive development initiatives, including the establishment of two special economic zones. UNB news agency reported
“Massive development activities are going on in Chittagong as economic activities are increasing fast. Among the planned 100 special economic zones, two are in Chittagong (Mirsarai and Anwara),” he said.
The minister was addressing a function as the chief guest marking the formal inauguration of a permanent office for Chittagong Journalists Forum, Dhaka (CJFD) at Swandwip Bhaban in the city.
Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, MP, CJFD founding President and Daily Sun acting Editor Enamul Haque Chowdhury, BSS special correspondent AnupKumar Khastagir and CJFD general secretary Mujib Masud, among others, spoke at the function held with CJFD President Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
On continuous Water-logging in Chittagong city, the minister said this issue is easily addressable but funds and required efforts are needed from the persons engaged on the ground with responsibilities to deal with the problem.
“There’s nothing to worry about water-logging. It’ll be addressed,” Mosharraf said suggesting the authorities concerned in Chittagong to come up with a big concrete project in this regard.
Mentioning the government’s current financial capacity, he said, “We can do it easily.” Being a minister from Chittagong, Mosharraf said, he also has some responsibilities.
The Housing Minister also expressed his displeasure over the construction of flyovers in Chittagong without selecting proper areas.
Expressing satisfaction over the overall investment flow in Chittagong, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sincere about the development of Chittagong.
Turning to journalists, he said media people should focus on development efforts of the government apart from constructive criticisms. “I’m not telling you not to write on negatives, if there is any.”
The Housing Minister also shared his plan for the development of housing sector in Bangladesh making it affordable to people.
Speaking at the function, MP Mahfuzur Rahman said, “I’m very delighted. I’m glad to see my guardian (Minister) in my own building today.”
Enamul Haque Chowdhury said, “It’s a great achievement. Now we have our own office. We’ll remain grateful to them who extended their support to have the office.”
