Cyclone crosses Ctg, causes heavy rainfall in Bangladesh, WB, Orissa

The coast crossing cyclonic storm “Komen” crossed Chittagong coast near Sandwip at 06am today (Friday) and now lies over Noakhali and adjoining land area as a land depression.
Maritime ports of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to lower danger signal number seven but instead hoist local cautionary signal no three, said a special bulletin  of the Meteorological Department.
However, the maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower danger signal number five but instead hoist local cautionary signal no three.All fishing boats, trawlers and marine vessels over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till afternoon today and proceed with caution till further notice.
Earlier, ‘Komen’ hit the Chittagong coast around 9pm on Thursday.
Two people were killed in storms triggered by ‘Komen’ in Cox’s Bazar and Bhola on Thursday.
In Cox’s Bazar, a man was killed as a tree collapsed on him amid strong wind and heavy rainfall in Saint Martin’s Island in Teknaf upazila early in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Ali, 50, Paschimpara area of the Island. At least fifty percent houses were damaged by the storms.
In Bhola, a housewife, Monzuma Begum, 55, wife of Sobahan Mollah, was killed as a tree collapsed on her at Char Kochuakhali village in Lalmohan upazila early in the morning.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) suspended until further notice  operation of vessels on the waterways throughout the country.
Besides, the authorities suspended ferry services under Roads and Highway Division throughout the country because of the bad weather.
The services will remain suspended until further notice, said a media release of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry.-UNB
