Demo at JU to press withdrawal of case against students

Savar – Demanding the withdrawal of case, teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the banner of “Teacher-Student Unity Platform” brought out a silent procession on the university campus on Monday.
Sporting symbolic gags, about 250 students and teachers along with the activists of left-leaning student organizations participated the procession.
At about 11:30am, the procession started from Social Science Faculty building and ended through a meeting in front of JU Registrar building after parading the important streets of the university.
Among others, Prof Nasim Akhter Hossain of Govt and Politics Deptt., Prof Mirza Taslima, Prof Sayeid Ferdous of Anthropology dept., Prof Shamima Sultana of Bangla dept., Prof Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Prof Kamrul Ahsan, Asst. Prof Rayhan Ryne of Philosophy dept., Prof Khandaker Ashraful Munim of Economics dept. and Asst. Prof Anisa Parvin Joly of History dept. were present.
Earlier, on May 26, 2 JU students were in killed in road accident.
Then the general students had been demonstrating following the death of their two fellows putting blockade on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
At one stage, police fired teargas and rubber bullets on them that left 7 injured including a journo.
Later, the agitated students vandalized JU VC’s residence.
Following the unrest, the authorities shut down the campus on May 28 and lodged a case against the students. – JU Correspondent
