Detained Faruque Hossain, a staff of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, on Sunday made confessional statement before a magistrate of Dhaka Court revealing that Mehdi , assistant of Barrister Fakhrul Islam, the counsel for condemned convict war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, was involved in the leakage of its draft verdict. ”I myself and Mehdi were involved in it, and Barrister Fakhrul was also aware of the entire episode,” he confessed. After recording his statement, according to court sources, metropolitan magistrate Harun-or-Rashid ordered that Farroque be sent to jail. Earlier, on October 10, tribunal cleaner Noyon also made confession statement at the court in connection with the leak. Both Nayon and Faruque were arrested on October 4 for their alleged links to the leak of the draft verdict. On the same day, a case was filed with Shahbag Police Station against the duo accused and others under the Information and Communication Technology Act. On October 1, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced the BNP policymaker to death for the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. However, the copy of the verdict without the judges’ observations and sentences got circulated on different websites before its pronouncement. – UNB
